The Best Gaelic Games to Try Out in 2020

Gaelic games refer to sports actively played in Ireland. These games are performed under the management of the GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association). There are several Gaelic sports, as discussed below.

Gaelic Football

This Gaelic game is played on a grass field by two teams each of 15. While the men’s version is the most popular, there is a female version of this game called ladies’ Gaelic football. The goals are H-shaped at each end of the field. A goal on the lower side earns the team three points while scoring over the bar, is a goal worth one point.

Hurling

Hurling is played by two teams of 15 each side on a grass field with H-shaped goalposts at each end. This stick and ball sport’s main objective is to score, just like it’s done in hockey and attain three points. Also, you can score by hitting the ball over the bar, which is worth one point. The team that scores the highest points wins the match.

Gaelic Handball

Gaelic handball is governed and promoted by the GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association). Two players play this game. These players use their hands to strike the ball against the wall. Gaelic handball has three modes: One Wall, 40×20, and 60×30. The most internationally famous model of this sport is the One Wall.

Rounders

Rounders is similar to baseball in that it is a ball and bat game where teams alternate in being batters and fielders. To score, the batting team must complete a circuit around the field through four bases. If they are caught out before completing the four bases, that won’t be a score.

Camogie

Camogie is a female version of hurling. It is quite similar to men’s hurling, with a few differences such as the use of a smaller sliotar ball.
